I am work at home mum who discovered that she knows more about appliances then people around her. This is why I decided to start Dishwasher reviews. Maybe there will be more review blogs in future :)

Smeg Dishwasher DF612SDX Review2008-11-05
This Smeg dishwasher is by no means the cheapest out there but for reliability and results I do think it is up there with the best of them. I got mine when I moved into my brand new apartment, and I was pleased as I'd heard good things about Smeg appliances in the past. I wasn't disappointed. The Smeg dishwasher can handle a large load of dirty pots, pans, glasses and cutlery. It's design (2 racks with removable cutlery holder) means that you really can fit everything bar the kitchen sink in there and it fits all the dirty pots, pans and paraphenalia from a full dinner party for six people - ie, a lot!

It is very quiet when it is on, and very reliable. I do find I have to use a good quality dishwashing tablet, as I get poor results from the cheaper ones, but obviously that is a testament to how good the better dishwashing tablets are, not the dishwasher!

There are five wash settings ranging from light to heavy soiling (ie, lasagna dishes, or caked on pans). To be honest I find that setting 4 covers the entire gamut of filthiness I can create, even with my bombsite-kitchen style of cooking (!) and have never needed to use setting 5. The washer gets very very hot, so what I do once it has finished the cycle is open it up and pull out the drawers, as you can't put the clean items away as soon as you've done the wash - they are far too hot, and cool far quicker when the unit is open.

One little flaw is that I really really wish the unit had a self timer - I do set it off in the morning before I go to work but when I get home some nine hours or more later I open up the dishwasher and it can smell a little musty due to all the condensation that builds up and is trapped inside. I have purchased those little plastic scented things you hang inside the washer but they are only good for so long - if it had a timer I could set it off for 4pm when I return at five, for example.

Other than that, I cannot fault this dishwasher at all. I have never had a problem with the build, the reliability or the results. I will keep on buying Smeg without a doubt and certainly advise my friends and family to do the same.
