I am work at home mum who discovered that she knows more about appliances then people around her. This is why I decided to start Dishwasher reviews. Maybe there will be more review blogs in future :)

It is good to learn that more and more people are getting concerned about environment as a consequence of the efforts put in by the media and the state. It's perfectly fine to be using recyclable materials, but at times getting too conscious about the subject poses very tricky situations and it becomes rather difficult to reach a logical decision. Let's analyze the case of an old dishwasher: Whether to get repaired the old machine or throw it away and buy a new one? Here are a few points, supporting either of the two options. You are left to decide for your own self as to which one helps you and the environments.

In Favor of Buying New

It may come as a news to you that most of the domestic or industrial machines being produced today are more energy-efficient and the manufacturing processes and materials have been devised to keep environments in a healthier state than ever before.
So you better get over that sense of guilt of replacing the old equipment and sending it to a landfill. The new machine will definitely perform more efficiently and consume much less energy. For all you know, the maintenance and repairs of the old dishwasher may really cost you more than the cost of a new one! Recently we traded an old refrigerator with a new one only to realize soon a saving of about fifteen percent in electricity consumption. Add to that the happiness brought about by new equipment that is nearly noiseless. Rather than continuing with old equipment that calls for recurring expense for its maintenance, wouldn't it make a better economic sense to replace it with a new one? In the long run you save money.

Dishwasher Parts and Repair

On the other hand your appliance might still be in a reasonably good condition but broke down prematurely. What can you do under such circumstances? An old dishwasher like the one described above needs to be replaced. If it isn't so old and you find its features convenient and of much use, probably you have the option of its repairs. While thinking of repairs, think in terms of the cost of spares, the expenses for their procurement and the labor charges that you will incur. It's fine if you can order the spares online, else be prepared to spend your time and fuel to fetch them.

Maybe you are having a reasonably well-stocked workshop with the tools needed to replace the parts yourself. Otherwise you will be required to pay for the skilled labor to be provided by the dealer or the manufacturer. For an expensive or even a moderately priced appliance it may be worthwhile to bear the cost of spares and labor. However, it may not be a good decision to get repaired low cost equipment, for the cost of repairs may exceed the worth of the equipment.
